Re: aspergers syndrome
I recently spent a week staying with a family who has a 21 year old guy with Asperger's. His family seemed to deal with his difficulties by remaining calm and firm and affirming his character. For example, his mother needed him to drive his grandmother to the doctor, and he was whining because he "had a cold" and thought "someone without a cold" should do it. He seemed oblivious to the fact that his sister was getting married in 3 days (why I was down there) and every single available person was wrapped up in an extremely hectic schedule.
I can see how this type of behavior would drive most people crazy, but the mother was one of the kindest and most patient people I have ever met. I remember her saying to him, "Chris, you are such a good person. Do it for Jesus. Do it because it honors God."
I don't know if you're religious, but that reasoning seemed to motivate him. This might not help you at all, but I wanted to share just in case.
