TN is chronic severe pain that is sudden burning shock like pain. You normally experience it on one side of the face. It lasts anywhere from a few seconds to a couple of minutes long when an attack occurs. My hubbys uncle has it. It is not fatal, but it can be pretty brutal in it's intensity. It is not life thretening. It can be controlled with drug therapy and with biofeedback and accupuncture. Our relative actually had his nerve cut to help relieve the pain.

The general consenses is that it runs in families. It can be triggered by just touching the cheek at times.....
