Re: Thyroid nodules, surgery and breastfeeding

I've heard wonderful things about Dr. Gaz! I'm actually seeing Dr. Randolph at Mass Eye and Ear Infirmary. The MEEI uses MGH's pathology department and they were the ones that did my repeat FNA. I think part of why my daughter can't stay with me is because MEEI is only 42beds and I don't think they have any private rooms. I was thinking that if she could stay with me and nurse as she needs to I could have the surgery done sooner rather than later. Dr. Randolph told me it would be easier for everyone if I was not lactating at all. So... I wait until my daughter improves with treatment and can wean before I can have surgery. It was actually the sonographer and the MD in the radiology dept at MEEI that told me that they went to a conference about pregnant and lactating women whose nodules grew and then shrunk once they weaned. Wouldn't that be nice. The only thing that eats at me a bit is the left smaller nodule had a couple of hurthle and follicular cells in the FNA that was done at St. E's. MGH looked at the slides and called it benign and then repeated it and called it benign again. I found that confusing, but I know that Dr. Randolph, like Dr. Gaz, is one of the top surgeons in Boston (I believe they are considered the top two actually). When is your surgery scheduled? I hope it goes well for you!
