I asked my ENT about this because I have been suffering from acid-related throat problems for more than a year now. He said the chances are very low. I think there is more of a risk of a cancer developing in the esophagus, at the junction of the stomach, because more acid damage builds up there and over time cell changes can occur, leading to Barretts esophagus, which can lead to cancer.
