Some hospitals allow their RN's to scrub. I worked for 16 years in the OR, and scrubbed for a couple of services upon occasion. By law, the circulator, has to be an RN. It's more cost efficient for hospitals to useORr tech's. All OR tech's have to be certified to my knowledge. It really depends on the hospital. I havent worked in the OR for quite a few years, but when I left, we had quite a number of RN's who scrubbed. I loved it, by the way!
