GERD is definitely the most likely cause of the "lump in the throat" feeling but it's very common to have GERD without an upset stomach or heartburn. The lump is usually a small area in your esophagus that has been irritated and inflamed by acid from your stomach.
It could also be that something you've eaten caused a small irritation or scratch, but that feeling usually clears up in a day or two.
