I have never heard of damaged heart valves from weight lifting. Is this all weight training or just heavy lifting?
As for the OP I think it is just up to you whether you like to eat or not before you work out. There are valid arguments for both. Why are you taking an entire week off? That seems counter productive.
If you have hit a plateau in your weight loss check your calorie intake, you may be eating too much, or interestingly, not enough. Also you may want to try some different types of exercise, or up the intensity on your current routine.
