Re: Reasons for Backache
Welcome to the boards and sorry to hear of your low back pain.
There are commonly two reasons for back pain - muscle problems or spinal problems (herniated discs, stenosis, instability, etc.).
If you are having aching pains in a localized area of your back, chances are good that it is muscle problems which respond well to muscle relaxers, heat or ice 20 minutes at a time several times per day, or physical therapy if it's persistent.
If you are having pain also down one or both legs in addition to back pain, chances are you have nerve compression which is a spinal problem. Stabbing pains and pain being relieved by certain positions like lying on the floor with your feet elevated by pillows are also indications that it is more likely nerve compression.
Do you have pain also down one or both legs? If so, get to a doctor ASAP. If not, try ice/heat and pain relievers like Tylenol or ibuprofin (as long as you don't have health problems that you shouldn't take these) for a few days. If not better in a few days visit a doctor for advice.
We're not doctors on here so we can't give you medical advice, but we have understand back pain and have been dealing with it for a long time.
