Definately. I have had the same problem since in my late 20s and at times I feel it in my neck. I had just X-rays and it showed up. You could have one in your neck starting as well, as they do tend to creep up on you.
Maybe you need another MRI to see if it is working up to your neck. Many times I will move the wrong way and hear that rotten crunching sound especially if I sleep wrong. I know mine is mostly from a car accident I had. The Dr. told me when I get in the shower to run warm water and while under it VERY slowly move my head to one side, then bring it back straight and then do the same thing to the other side. Never move it from side to side, always one side..straight up and down..then to the other side.
