Yes, I have.
I didn't learn to drive until late in life, and I was constantly afraid I'd hit a person and not realized it. I'd worry about it, and when I'd get home I'd check my car for some sign that I'd hit a person, and I'd think about how terrible it would be if the police showed up at my door and told me I'd hit a person without knowing it.

Then one day, I hit a cat. It was unavoidable, but still quite terrible, because I love animals.
Anyway, that small cat made such a huge, jarring *THUNK* when I hit it... that I never worried again after that about hitting a person and not knowing it, because you'd definitely know it. Even hitting a little cat made a huge bump. There is no way you could just not know you'd hit something.
