For me the ear pain currently comes and goes periodically. I'll have a really bad week, then months that are ok. I've had chronic ear stuffiness for almost 2 years now in my right ear that is directly attributed to my TMJ.
I'll tell you that the best thing that helped me through this was visiting a PT who has special training. She works my neck and does oral trigger point releases. It usually takes repeated visits, but when my muscles finally loosen and spasm less some the pain is significantly better.
My problem lies in that my muscles are constantly tight. I just can't afford to continually visit my PT or massage therapist and my muscles tighten right back up.
To make matters worse, I found out I have hypermobile joints. I attribute my TMJ and a shoulder issue to this. When my TMJ makes my facial and neck muscles spasm, it travels down to my shoulder. When my shoulder gets worse, it ends up triggering my TMJ ear pain. It can be a viscious cycle at times.
Fortunately, I haven't had as many bad flares since I've had my repositioning splint for a while, but I still have periods of spasms that drive me nuts. When the ear pain is bad, it keeps me from sleeping which makes things worse.
My TMJ specialist wants me to start with Phase II and I'm really anxious to start since I know it will take a couple years, but I just don't see being able to afford it anytime in the forseeable future.
Right now, I'm just "stuck" where I'm at.
As for the sinuses, I used to get about 4 infections a year that lasted about 8 weeks each, with a few rounds of antibiotics. I've been receiving immunotherapy shots for years and I'm down to about 1 infection a year.
Are you using a neti pot along with your other treatments for the sinus problems?
