Re: New to all this/ still waiting to see a specialist.

I just found out I have TMJ and that my jaw is bad. The left side is so bad that the joint is almost gone. So I am undertaking TMJ therapy and also acupunture. I have arthritis in the jaw.

The thing is I never knew this until the dental specialist told me to take MRI. Now we know what is going on. It took me forever to know this. I didn't have any idea at all until this past May!!

It is important for me to know this. But it takes the right guy to tell you what you need.
Perhaps I should have complained more about my jaw pain to my own dentist 10 years ago... Anyway, now I know. Also, I was born with the bad jaw, so I am different.
My mouth is too small for a splint. But I am still trying to see if the doctor can make it larger so I can use one. I had one 12 years ago but it was not working anymore.

Here is also another thing: the specialist told me about surgery - about how it would happen and how it would not work or how I would not be able to have it and so on. Scary. It took me 2 therapists to comfort me that I may not need surgery.

Don't get scared by the doctors! Get a jaw specialist...
The steps I went through are: regular dentist, specialist in dentist, MRI (ordered by GP for insurance), TMJ therapy, jaw surgeon and etc.
Somewhere there, they should tell you why you have the problem.

Good luck,
Nina
