Re: Fiance and I wake up with Sore Throat and Chest Pains.

Two things I would check (as a former disaster recovery engineer the first is top priority)

As mentioned mould is a very strong possibility the important ones are Stachybotrys and Mucon. Stachy is one that I would consider. I see you are in US and I know that a lot of houses in US are wood frames and I think you call it sheetrock (plasterboard in UK) Stachy loves cellulosic material (which is the carboard outer layers used in sheetrock) and can cause a lot of symptoms such a dry throat, metal deterioration and confusion over time. The other one is carbon monoxide from a poorly maintained heating system or cracked flue. Both can be checked very easily, and CO meters are available from good DIY centres (I think Home Depot in US) and Stachy can be checked by air sampling by an environmental monitoring company.

Hope this helps. If you have mould issues,f..... although bearing in mind the letigious nature of US business, I would suggest getting a professional in to deal with it. I can however give you an idea of what they should be doing so you can ask questions if you are unsure of anything!

Anything else, just ask......

Asbestos, although an issue, the fibres should remain safe and stable unless disturbed. (although it needs to be checked for) it does not necessarily need removing, just encapsulating and sealing. Your professional should be able to advise on this,
