| Question about ppi and natural remedies
Hi,
I was just diagnosed with LPR (laryngopharyngeal reflux) last week. I have all the classic symptoms: phlegm in my throat, especially in the morning, very hoarse voice, feeling like there's something stuck in my throat, very tight sore feeling in throat, lower ear pain, and occasionally tightness in my upper chest.
I saw an ENT last week and he did the scope thing down my nose. He didn't seem very helpful to me. He said he didn't see anything "nasty" whatever that means... but he put me on Prilosec, 20 mg, twice a day. When I asked him how long it would take me to feel better, his response was 6-8 weeks if the problem really is LPR and also said there's not much I can do about the pain in the mean time. He said that if the Prilosec works, then it is LPR and if it doesn't work than it must be something else. So frustrating to have to wait that long just to get a firm diagnosis.
I've been doing a lot of reading and am trying to eat the blandest, non-fatty foods that I can, but I'm also wondering about some of the natural remedies. Is it safe to take DGL, slippery elm, and/or aloe vera while on a ppi like prilosec? Anyone used these remedies before with a ppi? I want to feel better!!
Thanks!
