Working memory and school performance

Funny, I had a fixation with ADHD and it's link with IQ awhile back, but I've been reading studies of learning disabled children, and how working memory was the single best predictor of school performance. What I'm wondering is, do stimulants actually have an impact (in general) on working memory? I was on the lowest dosage of Concerta awhile back, and while it did help with focus somewhat, my working memory was only perhaps slightly improved. I'm not sure what to do with this issue. College is all about absorbing vast quantities of information and being able to manipulate it at least somewhat. The only reasons I am getting pretty much B's across the board is because of the fact that I am taking online classes.
