However, home blood meters typically work on capillary blood. Blood laboratories will frequently use blood taken from veins. The normal value of venous blood is higher than that for capillary. There is also a margin of error on laboratory tests. Moreover, and this goes, in part, to the second sentence in the first paragraph, above, you did not mention whether the examination was of a fasting value.
