Consequences of a hole in the head

Nine years ago, when I was 5, I tripped and my head landed on a very sharp rock, and it literally made a hole in my head. It was wide enough for a q-tip to fit in, it was probably 0.5 to 1 inch deep. (I don't really remember) We were too poor to go to the hospital so we just cleaned the blood off me and let it heal. (Again, I don't remember much of this memory) It eventually healed though, but my main question is, what effects could this have had on me?

Also, I have a hard time understanding speech with other noise going on, possibly an effect? I have read head trauma can cause it, its a disorder called ADS or something like that.
