As someone who's suffered from carsickness (as a passenger only), I can say that looking out the side makes things much worse for me. Staring ahead, like the driver does, is not nearly so bad. I think, though, that it's the fighting the motion of the car that makes it the worst. The driver knows what the car is going to do, so the driver doesn't get sick.

Anyway, it sure sounds like there's either an inner ear or brain problem (whoopee, huh?). But this is coming from a real know-nothing when it comes to cerebral problems. It's possible that Jennybyc or someone else has some ideas, though....
