Re: Hello, here to learn prior to Dad's knee replacement

Thank you so much for all the info! Dad says he didn't hear anything about a CPM in his pre-op session (yikes) so I wonder if it's even offered here...I will find out more about that as I see many people here have used them and it just SEEMS like an obvious benefit.

I do worry about blood clots as I myself had massive multiple pulmonary emboli following surgery a couple of years ago and am still on warfarin. However, it does not appear to be genetic, just a 'perfect storm' for me at the time, so hopefully he will not be prone to them. Apparently all the TKR patients tend to be put on Pradax now.

I know he'll do the PT and everything he can to get moving, he is a restless soul. They already got a raised seat for the toilet and a cane, and the hospital lent him a walker.

His kneecap is apparently in good shape so that won't be replaced. I'm assuming this is a good thing although it's a small 'part'.

I'm curious to find out as to why they wouldn't recommend a CPM, I need to find out more about if that's offered. I can only think that it would help immensely.

Thanks again so much!
