How long did you take an anticoagulant, post-op?

My dad is currently taking Xarelto, started the day after his TKR and prescribed for 2 weeks. Is this sufficient time? He is definitely performing his at-home exercises and moving as much as he can without risk of going too far (he is 5 days post-op). Obviously he is mosly sedentary but is always changing his leg position, doing ankle circles, etc.

I am a bit sensitive on this issue as I had massive bilateral pulmonary embolisms (?) a couple of years ago following surgery, at age 30. I am on warfarin still although I have never had a leg clot and it was considered *idiopathic* (it was 2 months post-surgery that I was dx'd, although obviously it would have taken awhile to build up) and my sister did every blood/genetic disorder available with no problems found. So I am a little paranoid about clots!
