I had the same injury when I fell off a ladder just before Christmas. I was put in a backcast and told to rest 14 days - foot above heart for 2 weeks to get the swelling down before they would operate - I thought it was just because of the Christmas holidays, but, after further research found this was the correct procedure. So, I kept it elevated, the swelling went down, and they operated 2 weeks after my accident.

So, if your accident happened March 9th, and if you need an operation it should take place around the 23rd - as the others have said, keep ringing the hospital to get a date.
