Re: sciatica pain

Voltaren (Voltarin) is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug used to relieve the inflammation, swelling, stiffness, and joint pain associated with rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis and ankylosing spondylitis (arthritis and stiffness of the spine).

What people call sciatica can be an irritation or compression of a lower lumbar spinal nerve that is causing pain that radiates down the leg, or it can be an irritation or compression of the sciatic nerve itself, which is located in the back of the leg. Voltaren may bring relief if there is tissue swelling that is irritating the nerve.

Drugs that are typically given for nerve pain are gabapentin, which is the generic name for neurontin or Lyrica.

You might want to see a spine specialist to see if there is a lower lumbar problem or go to a pain management doctor for "nerve" medication.
