Stage 4 Small Cell Lung cancer - life expectancy

Hello everyone,

I wonder if anyone can help me?

My one and only uncle (62 yrs) was diagnosed last week with stage 4 small cell lung cancer. Cancer masses found in both left and right lung and the space between. It has also metastasized to every vertebrae of the spine, to his shoulder, hips and pelvis. There was also some kind of a spill around his heart, but I didn't understand this... He's doing a CT scan of the brain tomorrow, but doctors have already said surgery is not an option. Not even chemo. They said the best they can do for him is try to alleviate the pain.

Can anybody tell me what is the life expectancy in cases like this? The doctors wouldn't say anything before the CT scan, but all of this sounds so terrible even without knowing what the situation with the brain is...

I'd like to know how much time we have left with my uncle and what can we do to make that time as comfortable as possible for him?

Thank you.

Kacha
