A little background first. Two years ago my gallbladder was removed. Since then I have had horrible bouts of diarrhea. My Dr told me I have IBS-d from the bile dumping.
My Dr has basically given me the choice...Questran (which gives me bad headaches and terrible indigestion) Imodium (which has really helped taking just 1 a day) or Bentyl (as needed, but I haven't tried it yet)
I've been doing fine on 1 Imodium every morning but I can't skip a day. I'm not a pill taker and Bentyl scares me. In fact all that Imodium even scares me. What has been your experience with these meds?
Thanks for any input.
I want my gallbladder back...grrrr!
I have been on Bentyl since 1996 for my IBS. It's mainly to help slow down the colon spasms that cause so much pain and in my case the explosive diarrhea episodes. The only side effects that I experience is dry mouth but it can make you constipated if you are prone to this as part of your IBS. If I were you I would stick with what I know works for you the best. The bentyl really needs to be taken four times a day at 6 hour intervals to be effective.
