Morning numbers often go up because of the dawn phenomenon. What happens is that your liver triggers the release of glucose into your system to prepare for the day. Sometimes a small carb snack with fat or protein the night before will short circuit this. Something like peanutbutter and a couple of small crackers. This works for some people, but not everyone.
