Unhappy Pain During Well Lubcricated Sex

I am a 22 year old female who regularly has sex with the same monogamous partner once or twice a day.I have no symptoms of an STD. He has a rather large penis, but we always have a lot of foreplay and I am ALWAYS EXTREMELY wet by the time intercourse happens. However, I have noticed that the upper part of my vaginal canal, about 2 to 3 inches in, hurts when his penis gets up to it. It feels like it is dry, even though I am more than sufficiently lubricated. After I work it in slowly it stops hurting immediately, I am guessing because it helps redistribute my lubrication. I want to know why it is that the lower part of it is so well lubricated while the canal itself feels dry and causes pain during the first moments of penetration. Is this normal? If not, what could cause this? Thank you
