I had chondromalacia in both knees a few years ago. I tried physical therapy several times, (taping-of my kneecaps...they were tracking laterally out of their grooves (this issue showed up on a special x-ray view, not an mri)), and knee braces. Those were short term fixes for me. I ended up having surgery on each knee a year apart. The surgeon fixed my kneecap tracking issues and cleaned out the damaged cartilage under my kneecaps. My last knee surgery was in March 2010. Both of my knees are doing well. I am more active now than I ever have been in my life.

I hope this gave you some encouragement that the problem can get better. I did not have the stem cell treatment done. That was never mentioned as an option.
