I seriously doubt they did thyroid tests in the ER. Why not see a cardiologist to get to the bottom of it. You probably need an echocardiogram and 24 hr Holter monitor, which the cardiologist could do as well as thyroid tests, and prescribe a beta blocker to slow rate down. The red cold hands could be Raynaud's, a vascular spasm that occurs intermittently, and is seen in some autoimmune disorders. ER docs just want to rule out life threatening illness and they do not delve into causes etc like other docs do.
