Jump in fasting BGL

Two years ago at 78 I was diagnosed with Diabetes T2. Went through all the education with approved trainers and did not need to change diet, just eat less. Doctor prescribed Metforin 500 2 tabs a day. This and less fod dropped the HBA1C from 8.2 to 6.4, now 6.7.
Several months back my overnight fasting BGL rose from 4.8 to 6.8 and I cannot get it down. New HBA1C test in two weeks and I am expecting it to be higher than before. The only information I have got on the reason for the jump is on Google. My local doctor does not know except to tell me what I have already read. Currently my BGL befor lunch is usually around 5.4 to 5.8, two hours after it will be around 8 to 9. Three hours after it wlll drop to around 6.8. Before dinner at night, again around 5.8 with similar after meal figures as lunch. It just does not drop overnight. Any ideas anyone?
Thanks
Nev
