Diagnosis Negative, but Symptoms Positive
I've had the IBS label for years, and had no relief until I stopped eating grains, so I figured I'd get tested for celiac and gluten sensitivity. Both came back negative. I really didn't expect to be positive for celiac, but for something to show up as at least sensitivity. The symptoms are quite clear when I go on grains and off grains. My body cannot handle grains. So why are the blood tests normal, I wonder. Would anyone here know? Perhaps it does not always show up in the bloodwork?
BTW, I was off gluten for months (except for one cheat the week before bloodwork). The doc was aware of this. Can that have a bearing? Do you have to be eating gluten in order to get an accurate result on blood tests?
