nitzi ~ Welcome to the board.

We weren't questioning why the two procedures for the reason you suggested, but I was wondering why he didn't just do a PLIF for the two levels.

You have a big decision to make. Quite a difference between a multi-level and a one level fusion. Maybe a third opinion??
