I personally think you should get a second opinion. I have seen a lot of doctors of over the past few years and have learned to trust my gut instinct. I am no expert but I am surprised if they indicated that your issues are muscular rather than jaw related they are filing down your teeth. In my view, if the problem is muscular I would expect doing physio and massage to try to relax the muscles and perhaps coupled with a drugs such as muscle relaxants to help the muscles relax, at least as a first step before trying something that is permanent.

What's the purpose of the splint at night?
