HI..last Novemeber I noticed a large lump on the right side of my neck. I had recently lost alot of weight by dieting and I think the fat was covering this lump. I went to my MD who ordered an ultrasound and referred me to an endocrinologist. The ultrasound came back as a multinodular goiter over 5cm.
The endo turned out to be the MD from hell. She was TERRIBLE. Had to wait 4 months for the apt..then a minimum of 2 hours in the office which had no nurse..only a secretary!
Anyway, she started me on synthroid(which it turned out I did not need) and ordered a repeat ultrasound in 6 months. I had it done and it showed a 'possible discrete solid mass' and the endo never called me about this. The report sat in her office for 5 weeks till my next apt. She then wanted to do a FNA. However, by this time I did not want her to touch me so I went back to my regular MD today, whose opinion I trust.
She immediately sent me to an ENT who she said was the best and who she would go to. He was wonderful. He compared my 2 ultrasounds(which the endo had not done) and said they were the same and it was a goiter. However, it is so large it is displacing my windpipe which is now on the left side of my neck instead of the middle. Both my parents have had goiters..my Dad a large right -sided one like mine(benign) and my Mom had a huge sub-sternal one(also benign). I am scheduled to have a ct scan Friday to see if this is growing into my chest cavity.
I am pretty sure that surgery is the only answer and I expected that.
Has anyone been through a similar situation?
