GERD meds - Acid Reflux / GERD Message Board

I was on 80mg daily of Protonix for about 6 months and then it wasen't working very well anymore. Now my doctor switched me to Nexium about 2 weeks ago. I am still getting the acid back up into my throat. How long does the Nexium take to start working? Do you think I need an increase? I am taking 2 pills a day right now of the Nexium.

Some doctors may prescrib Nexium twice a day for a short period (a month). It may cause diarrhea.

I've tried having the head of my bed elevated by propping it with blocks so acid wouldn't back up that much.

I'm also on Prevacid.

I am currently on Protonix (although I believe my body is trying to defeat it...), but I am not quite sure on how long it takes Nexium to work. With my guess, it will take a little longer than two weeks, due to the damage that the acid has done to your esophagus. However, I do not know your exact case, so my best bet would be to consult your doctor and let him know what's going on before increasing the amount of medicine that you are taking. AS well, possibly try messing around with when you take your Nexium. Possibly take your first pill, and then wait 30 minutes or so before eating. Hope I could help, and GOOD LUCK
