new and scared help me! - Acid Reflux / GERD Message Board

hello everyone,
My doctors and dentist suspect that I have GERD, My symptoms are, diffculty swallowing, sore throats, head and ear aches, jaw pain, and the worst symptom of all decaying and breaking teeth. My filling rotted away and cracked this morning I keep ending up in so much pain because of my teeth and my dentist was baffled because I take such good care of my teeth but now they think it is GERD and apparently acid is splashing up onto my teeth in my sleep. Will this ever get better or am I doomed to a life of false teeth I am only in my early 20's so this is freaking me out big time. How do I stop GERD? help me!!

Are you taking anything for the reflux? That is the place to start. It would take an upper GI to determine if you are having reflux. Has that been done. Also...how long have you had reflux?

I understand your concerns. I have had reflux for several years now. I not only have had problems with my teeth, but the stomach acid also ate through the lining of my lung and 2/3 of my right lung had to be removed. Part of my esophagus eroded and had to be remade and have had several problems other than that. Just got back today from having my esophagus dialated for the second time. Find what is causing the problem and follow your doctors advice. In some cases you still have problems, but I know if not for having great doctors the problems could be a lot worse than what I have.
