Reflux Hereditary? - Acid Reflux / GERD Message Board

My Mother had gallbladder surgery 3 years ago, and was also diagnosed with reflux/hiatal hernia.

Now, I (at 41) am experiencing discomfort in my breastbone area (between the breasts), and am eating very, very lightly (plain chicken, turkey, water, cheerio's, white bread) because I had several bouts of pain.

Went in for an ultrasound of my abdomen several days ago - and are awaiting results. Endoscopy is scheduled for 9/1.

Does anyone know if Reflux is hereditary?

Anyone who has had an Endoscopy, do you remember anything at all?

My mother has it and she is 50. I am now 20 and was just diagnosed.

So i would go for yes. thogh i aint a Dr.

I would say yes as well.. my father has been suffering it since when he was in his 20s.. although he does have a hiatal hernia that makes it worse..
I am in my 20s and was diagnosed a few years ago, although I was probably 19 when the problems started.

Yikes, I was afraid of that! My Mom was diagnosed in her late 50's, I am 41. My ultrasound came back as having 'some gallstones', but my Endoscopy is on Thurs.

just to throw in my two cents... i have GERD, gastirtus, hiatal hernia and esophagitus (well, at one time I had all this, I think some has gone away... will find out on the 8th when i have endoscopy #3)...anyhow -
my mom has acid reflux, my sister just got it at the same age I first had symptoms....my grandmother had reflux and a hiatal hernia (and lived to be 98 I might add). and it seems like my dad is developing it!
sooo, I couldn't escape getting it as well!
my boyfriend has it too. If we have kids they are in trouble!
good luck with the endoscopy. I hate procedures, but really...it's over before you know it.
