Newbie Has Question - Acid Reflux / GERD Message Board

I have tried prevacid, nexium and protonix for my gerd. Nothing helps. Does anyone have any suggestions. It wakes me up at night at least 3 times a week. Thanx.

Have you seen a Gastro specialist? Ask him about the Nissen fundiplication operatation, this is one option that someone who's life is been severally affected by GERD might consider. In fact there are several option beside that that are worth researching.

Really though diet changes and lifestyle changes should be considered before an operation. Many find elevating the bed at night to be quite helpful in reducing nightime reflux and NEVER eat after 6pm, you're asking for trouble if you do and of course you shouldn't overeat as this will put more pressure on the stomach valves.

no meds help me either. raising my bed by a foot doesn't either. diet changes don't. nothing. i definitely would not have the fundo done. definitely. the relatively easy, but short-lasting procedures may be an option til something better comes along.

the only thing that helps me at all is taking lots of gaviscon tablets, but i try not to cause i hear the aluminum causes alzhiemers (i know that's spelled wrong).

i'm gonna order some alginic acid pills and see if that helps any. i'm also taking digestive enzymes, but they don't seem to help.
