Lump in my throat? - Acid Reflux / GERD Message Board

I havn't been diagnosed, but I also can't afford to go to the doctor to find out for sure, but from my research I've determined it quite likely that I have GERD. I have acid reflux every time I lie down, when my stomach gets too empty, etc... Sometimes I have it for no reason that I can pinpoint, though, again from research, I believe that it must be dietary.

So the other day I took some Effexor for depression and had terrible side effects, one of them being horrid acid reflux. Since then I've had what feels like a lump in my throat. Over time I think it's getting better and as that happens I notice that my throat feels dry. Could this be caused by GERD or something else entirely? Have any of you experienced this or heard about it before?

You are most likely experiencing LPR or laryngopharyngeal reflux. Do a google search on laryngopharyngeal reflux and many web sites will come up with a wealth of information for you. You may want to try OTC Prilosec for some relief (possibly 2x a day for LPR, AM and PM) since you don't seem in a position to see a doctor. If at all possible you should see an ENT doc for a diagnosis and treatment. If left untreated if can be very uncomfortable and only get worse with time. There are many threads on the GERD board that address LPR. I was diagnosed about a little over a year ago and it has been an uphill battle. However with meds., natural remedies, and general good health practices I am much better. Best of luck to you, LPR is certainly NO FUN!

Thanks for your suggestion. I checked it out and as of this moment anyway, it doesn't seem to be me. I will be watchful of the symptoms though to make certain it doesn't develop over time. It certainly sounds like no fun at all. I wish you the best of luck in your treatment.
