LPR not better after one month on prevacid - Acid Reflux / GERD Message Board

Wondering if anyone with LPR had success with a different drug than prevacid.

I've been taking 30 mg twice a day for a month now with no improvement. In fact, I haven't been able to eat solid foods for five weeks now. I have a constant feeling of my throat/neck being pushed in above my adam's apple as well as a constant sore throat. Food doesn't seem to affect it - it feels best when I wake up and within one hour the pain starts all over again. I
was truly optimistic for the first week, but am now very depressed at the lack of improvement after one month of prevacid and a careful diet. No caffeine, sodas, spicy foods, etc. Basically have been on a diet of bland soup and yogurt for five weeks.

If anyone could give me feedback or encouragement regarding LPR treatment, I would be grateful.

Switch to Nexium 40 mg 2x a day (total of 80mg). I'd recommend taking them together, in the morning, but your should experiment to find out what works best for you. Nexium is the most recent PPI to be introduced, and while it is very similar to the other PPIs (it is an Isomer of Prilosec), it has a very good reputation amongst LPR sufferes. FYI - I've been on Nexium for over 3 years now with excellent results. However, those 3 years were punctuated by experiments with Prevacid, Prilosec and Protonix, all of which brought by LPR symptoms roaring back.

Nexium is made by Astrozeneca, which also makes Prilosec. It was introduced when the Prilosec patent expired. Both of my heavy-hitter doctors (a gastro at University of Pennsylvania) and my ENT at Yale U. both recommend Nexium hands doesn for people with LPR.

The first time I took 2 pills of NExium at the same time, I stopped coughing for the first time in 6 months. I am alive today because of this drug.
