Reflux in my sleep - Acid Reflux / GERD Message Board

I have been throwing up in my sleep for several years, causing me to wake up and my throat feels like it is on fire. I have also noticed if I bend over to pick up anything within an hour or two after I eat, I have some sort of reflux. It seems to be getting more frequent, but my doctor does not seem concerned except for the fact that I could choke and not wake up. I am concerned on what is going on. Is this GERD? Any suggestion on what to do to try to stop it?

Beginnig to lose too much sleep and desperate...

So your doctor hasn't prescribed anything? Have you had any tests dones? Maybe it's time to see someone else and get a second opinion.

He has talked about doing some scope down my throat for over a year, but thinks we can wait. Gave me a few samples of Prevacid...twice.. about enough for me to take for a week both times. He really does not seem to be concerned, but I am starting to worry a bit. After a bad night, it feels like there is something stuck down my throat for a few days... If I try to drink anything above room temp, it feels like someone pouring acid down my throat... but usually is better in a few days...
I guess I should listen to him, he is the dr... and he is not worried

Have you tried not eating anything a few hours before going to sleep? I find that it helps me a lot when the stomach is more empty. I've also raised the head of the bed around 6 inches. I'm not sure if that is helping me any though.

There are also some acid blockers you can get over-the-counter like Pepcid. It might be worth trying. They're not all the same and maybe you just need to find one that will work for you.

Doctors can and do make mistakes. If he is not listening to you then do yourself a favor and get a new doctor.
