How Long Does it Take for the PPI Pill to Digest? - Acid Reflux / GERD Message Board

I'm wondering how long after I take the pill does it take to digest and get in the blood stream? The reason I want to know is that I'm having a colonoscopy along with the Endoscopy so the night before I have to drink that horrible stuff that cleans you out. But I usually take one PPI pill at dinner time when I'll already be drinking the laxative, so I'm afraid the pill will just go straight through me without working. I can't just skip the pill being that I'll have a totally empty stomach and want to take it as usual and have it work. Does anyone know what I can do?

I think most say about 1 hour for it to start working, but it's time release and I'm not sure how long it is supposed to sit in your intestines... honestly, take it, if you pass it, you pass it... if not, don't and just eat really bland foods, and do everything you can to naturally combat the GERD, like raising bed and using lots of pillows...

Thanks for the reply -i"m eating real bland but this is on Sunday when I have to only have liquids all day then nothing after midnight. I don't want to have a totally empty stomach all night (usually take it at 6pm) without the Pronotix in my system. Since it's time release doese that mean it might just stay in the intestines for 12 hours because then there's no hope of getting the medication into my system. The morning dose will be there but not the evening one?

Thanks for the reply - I'm worried about having a totally empty stomach and not having the PPI work because it's being sent out of my system with the laxative. I feel bad enough with it and having an empty stomach. I usually take it at 6am and 6 pm and I have to start drinking the laxative at 4pm. so any pills I take after that probably just pass right through. How can I get the medication to stay in my system?
