How long does it take for LPR symptoms to go away? - Acid Reflux / GERD Message Board

I've been on Nexium since May 1, 40 MG twice a day. As soon as I took it (along with Flovent 220 prescribed at the same time) my LPR symptoms got somewhat better.

However, five weeks later I'm still somewhat hoarse and still coughing, with that horrible feeling of mucus at the back of my throat that can't be cleared, coughed, or swallowed away.

I also have some asthma-like symptoms which the pulmonologist says are reflux-related (shortness of breath/feeling of pressure).

Experienced PPI users with LPR? How long before your symptoms cleared up?

Jane,

I am new to having LPR also. I am taking 40 MG Nexium twice a day as well. I have asked this question before and gotten different responses. There are people that say it can go away completely without any symptons and no medications necessary. There are people that say it is lasts forever. I guess it just depends.

Kevin, when did you start Nexium? What were your symptoms? Did they improve any when you started the meds, and what are they now?

I started Nexium about a month ago. Difficulty swallowing was the major symptom. I also had the lump in the throat that a lot of people have. Fullness in the ears was another problem. The fullness in my ears and lump in the throat has pretty much gone away. I still have the difficulty swallowing. Now I am getting the weird taste in the mouth.

What are your symptoms?

Kevin, what do you mean by "difficulty swallowing?" Hard to actually swallow, or hard to get food down?

My main symptoms are hoarseness, coughing, phlegm in my throat, and a feeling of pressure in my chest. I do have trouble getting food to go down, though no problem with the swallowing part.

Lately I am getting a kind of metallic taste in my throat. It's unpleasant. Is this the bad taste you're talking about?
