Endoscopy without sedation or general anesthesia - Acid Reflux / GERD Message Board

I read somewhere that you can get an upper endoscopy without being sedated or having general anethesia in your system. All they do is spray something in the back of your throat. Is this true cause I want to make sure my esophagus is ok but I am deadly afraid of being sedated and I'm allergic to general anesthesia. Someone please tell me.

Ive had the spray, can definitly recommend this method. It makes you gag when the tube is put down your throat, but soon the procedure becomes ok! Ive had it twice and on both occasions ive been out of Hospital pretty quickly.

i wouldn't have this done without being sedate why would you want to remember it

Its not General Anesthesia. The sedation just relaxes you and you close your eyes. I am one who does not like to be to sleep but this is relatively easy. The spray on the throat method is quite uncomfortabke i hear. good luck whatever you decide.
