Chronic Gastritis - Acid Reflux / GERD Message Board

I've had chronic gastritis for 12 years now. I've been to several specialists, had several scopes and biopsies. My symptoms do not match up with what they see. I have constant, chronic burning under my breastbone and in the stomach 24/7. It's worse at night and the burning wakes me up several times a night. Once I get up and walk around, it subsides.

I don't think there is another person in the world like me! I've tried every PPI on the market; carafate, OTC meds, herbs, anti anxiety meds because it was suspected it would relax my stomach. I've tried nothing and have tried everything.

I have slight nausea once in awhile; can usually eat okay. Some foods bother me and I've given up coffee and the nightly glass of wine. I've given up most of the foods I love. I am not overweight at all and exercise four days a week. I just turned 60 this year and have been battling this for so long now, I feel like there are days I will surely lose my mind.

This gives you a picture; I can go on and on but if there is someone out there who has been dealing with gastritis and has found something that works to get rid of it; please let me know.

I don't have GERD, refulx or an ulcer. No hernia. Just chronic gastritis. I've been tested for Hpylori via biopsies and it's always come back negative.

Do you take any medications that could be causing the gastritis?

I'm in a pretty similar situation. I do have LPR and gastritis both

I have the burning pretty much constant, in my stomach up to my neck, and mouth even. It doesn't matter if I eat nothing or something, or do meds or no meds. Actually the meds helped a little, but not enough and the side effects were not fun, so am trying other things.
Are you taking any meds at all? And are you taking any vitamins? The interesting thing, I stopped taking all vitamins that were tablets (hard, not capsules) and have been noting that I feel a little better...Just a thought. i think that sometimes we forget about those things, and they can be hard on the stomach.
Just a thought I wanted to throw out there.
Oh have you tried Gaviscon? That does help me a little with the burning.
I hope you get some relief soon, at least you know it's not an ulcer or something serious.

Thanks so much for your reponse. I didn't think anyone would post because I really think I am a case study and the only person dealing with this.

I don't take vitamins any longer. I use to but stopped months ago. Nor do I take medication for anything else.

I tried Gavison but it didn't help. Trust me, I have tried everything. Even spent money on Pine Nut oil that was suppose to cure gastritis.

I have worries that somethig this chronic will end up turning into something serious.

It baffles me that GERD is treated successfully with PPI's and other meds but the doctors are at a standstill when it comes to treating gastritis.

have you tried Nat Phos. #10 (homeopathic) tissue salts? I've just started taking them. We'll seeeee. (they aren't expensive).

I'm still struggling with GERD/LPR, and haven't found a cure, or a treatment either so Gerd isn't always successfully treated by meds.
I keep trying things, and have found some things to be helpful.
I wish you well, and some relief soon.
