Hi all
The negativity here regarding this surgery is what kept me from doing it for many years. Someone here (a few years back) even said that the motility test was the worst experience of their life ,,, and scared me off getting THAT done then too.
Thats why I am here and saying how well it all went for me. I want people to know that it CAN go extremely well.
I am not mad that I didn't do it years ago because of everyone elses experiences,,, I think it all turned out extremely well,,, glad I didn't just go get all of this done locally back then, so,,, am glad that the folks here were full of cautions,,, just want others to know it can be all done really really well, and CAN improve your life dramatically.
On CT scan my esophagus opening showed up as a pretty large opening, I understand it should be like a dot on CT. Thats how it felt, there was just no stopping the acid and food from being in my throat and mouth and lungs. It didn't matter what I ate or when I ate it it was all always THERE.
I guess an excellent gastroenterologist who KNOWS who can be helped by this surgery and who can't is vital. My gastroenterologist told me all of the risks and odds,, even seemed a little like she might be discouraging me from getting the surgery,,,, suggested increasing the intake of ppi's dramatically etc. before trying the nissen, but when I asked her if I had any chance of ever being normal again without the surgery she thought about it and said .....NO. That was when I knew I HAD to try it.
Best wishes for good digestion to you all,
Cheri
