I had an Endoscopy that showed I didn't have any damage, but didn't confirm if I hadj reflux or not. I then had a 24 hr. PH and a manometry test to verify my reflux. By use of sensor probes that were inserted through my nose and into my esophagus, the technician first measured to find where my esophageal sphincter was and if it was working properly. The second probe was inserted just above the esophageal sphincter and connected to a computer. I had to wear that probe fore 24 hours. It measured my reflux for that entire period. I had to keep a log of any activity I was doing with I had a reflux episode. I also had to push a button on the computer when I was eating or when I was in a prone position.

The tests confirmed that my esophageal sphincter was not closing properly and I had reflux about 35% of the day--that was while on nexium and following a low acid diet. Because I don't have heartburn and my symptoms could have multiple causes, this test made me feel better about the course of treatment I was receiving.

There is also a Bravo test where you swallow a capsule that measures your acid. I am not familiar with the specifics of that.
