Improving Reflux but what cost?

I have eliminated most of my reflux but I am wondering at what cost. Right now I am eating an almost vegetarian diet (I do throw in fish and eggs though). My reflux if mostly gone (except when I couldn't take it anymore and ate at McDonalds). My sore throat has almost completely gone. Only thing is I feel sick to my stomach alot and get some pains under my rib, not sure why that is. Get rid of one thing and something else hits you. Also I miss eating regular food, I'm hungry all the time. I don't know how vegetarians do it, I crave hamburgers, steaks, chocolate etc. etc. Only thing I eat that is junk is potato chips, they don't seem to bother me, not sure why. I wonder if my reflux is better because I'm eating very little fat or when I was eating anything if some food was causing the inflammation. Unsure as always but at least I'm not taking PPI's anymore. 3 weeks now without them. Yippee.

One question I'm hoping somebody has an answer for. If I no longer have reflux coming up my throat but I do get a burning under my right rib at times (alot after or duing eating) do you think I need to worry about this? I do not have a gallbladder so it's not that but if GERD is just causing a burning sensation below my right rib can that cause a problem?

take acidophilus twice a day, one before breaksfast and dinner. Also see if apple cider vinegar helps

Hello ttwarrior1, I'll give the apple cider vinegar a try. I'm already getting the acidophilis with yogurt.

I am a vegetarian and have been for the past 22 years. Ultimately you will be healhier for going vegetarian and eating mostly plant based foods. Before my stomach problems started I was never hungry as there's tons of vegies, fruits, beans, nuts, etc., to eat. Your body will adjust to not eating animal and flesh based foods and you will no longer have a craving for hamburgers, etc., You might want to eat several smaller meals throughout the day since lowfat/non fat foods don't stay in your stomach as long and that's why you probably feel hungry. The reason I'm hungry now with these stomach problems is because my stomach can only handle small amounts each day of beans and whole grains which fill you up.

That's great you got off the PPI's. I cut my dose in half (one pill per day) 3 months ago. My next step is to get off these all together. I'd rather have a limited diet than take medications.
