Question Breathing problems..

I have been having problems breathing 24/7. It feels like it is coming from my stomach. When I wear my bra or anything tight around my waist it is worse. I also have burning up my chest and at the base of my neck mahing the breathing difficult.

It does seem worse lying on my back. I have GERD. I take Pantoloc 40 mg.
I also have pain burning in my back(upper between shoulder blades).

I do have some stomach discomfort ,bloaty and pressure. At times I have had achy pain in my center left abdomen.

It is hard to get a good breath day and night.

I am waiting for an abdominal CT in Jan./07

Does this sound familiar to anyone?

Re: Breathing problems..

Yes it does....going through the same thing as you. I have had Xrays done, blood work and stool samples (even though the colonoscopy came back fine both times I have had one). Off to a specialist on Thursday to see what he thinks. The GERD is really bad this bout and am not sure what is going on with the area between the breast bone right at the tip of the stomach. Feel horrible, more scared than anything. Was glad to see someone else with the same thing going on...

Re: Breathing problems..

I had such a hard time breathing that my primary sent me to a cardiologist after doing a couple tests on her own. I told her I thought it was my stomach, which is what it turned out to be. I've been on Protonix 40mg. for about three weeks, Prilosec for 1 1/2 months before that (it worked but gave me wicked diarrhea). Your symptoms are just like mine were. I was running scared for a couple months thinking it was my heart, though. Hang in there; it's a good thing your doc is being thorough, even though it's worrisome. Sue

Re: Breathing problems..

I have breathing problems, too. It bothers me every day, pretty much all day. I had a really bad episode of reflux while I was sleeping months ago and ever since then I've had this problem. I struggle to get a good deep breath all the time. I don't have the burning, though (I'm on Prilosec and it helps that part). I do get pain in my chest, feels like it is my esophagus and sometimes I get a shooting pain in my stomach that goes up into my chest. All fleeting pains, though. I can relate to tight clothes making my breathing worse. I'm really shocked at how many people have breathing problems related to GERD. Puts my mind at ease to know I'm not alone.

Re: Breathing problems..

Yeah I get really bad shortness of breath. From what I hear, it is common with digestive problem sufferers. I have had very bad nausea(especially when I lay down for sleep) since thanksgiving. I have had bloating issues and digestive problems for months now and docs have run many tests and found nothing! Anyone know at least of anything that I can do to decrease the nausea for now? The shortness of breath thing and nausea can be very SCARY!!!

Re: Breathing problems..

Me too, as I mentoned in another post. I switch between Aciphex and Protonix as neither seems to work well past 3 mos. The breathing thing is a mystery though as it comes and goes but seems to be aggravated by exercise. Of late, I'm checking into the new minimally invasive implants that have been approved in Europe but not the U.S. The success rate is excellent and more than 70% of those who've done it are off all meds. Wouldn't that be great!

Meclezine-got it from my neuro for vertigo, but it worked pretty well for the nausea before the ppi's kicked in. It does make you tired, though.

Re: Breathing problems..

Esophyx. Actually developed in the U.S. but not yet FDA approved.
