My LPR theory - H-Pylori in throat? - Acid Reflux / GERD Message Board

okay, you all know how the h-pylori virus in the stomach causes ulcers and pain? well, i have a thought - do you think LPR could be caused by an h-pylori infection of the throat? in my last scope, my gi doc did a stomach biopsy for h-pylori, but not one of the throat. (i didn't have it in my stomach - i used to, but we killed it with antibiotics last year).

anyhow, i'm just thinking aloud here and wondering if i have h-pylori in my throat. could this be possible? could it be the cause of the LPR symptoms? anybody ever hear of this, or am i out in left field? i'm wondering if they should biopsy my throat.

During an endoscopy and biopsy for H Pylori, my gastroenterologist say they also found H pylori in my esophagus.....probably because of acid reflux. I was treated with the triple therapy, and they cleared the H pylori, but my esophagus showed signs of changes. The next endoscopy diagnosed Barretts esophagus. I would think if Pylori could get into the esophagus, it could probably make it to the throat. I would have it checked out.

hmm, that's interesting - yes, if it can be in the esophagus, then why couldn't it be in the throat too? maybe this really IS the problem with lpr. after all my throat was burning the whole time i had the bravo test (48 hours) and yet it showed no reflux. something weird is going on with LPR. you'd think docs would automatically check for this.

I think the acid comes up, does it's damage and heads back down. The burning it from the time the acid was there. Also I think the lump in the throat and the mucus is when the throat is trying to heal. Then you get hit again and it burns. Endless cycle. I think that HPylori causes ulcers but i doubt it has anything to do with GERD. Just my opinion.
