Pepcid AC and Headaches? - Acid Reflux / GERD Message Board

Hi,
I have been diagnosed with LPR and couldn't handle the side effects of Nexium. Last Saturday I decided to give Pepcid AC a shot. I take 10 mg. in the morning and 10 mg. at night. It seems to help my LPR a bit, but yesterday and today I have had awful headaches (I had a migraine yesterday). I know that one of the side effects of Pepcid is a headache, but could it cause such a severe headache? I'm starting to think I might be one of those people who just can't take acid blockers due to side effects. This is frustrating because my LPR has been a little better (not great, but better). Just wondering if anyone else has had this experience or whether it's all in my head!

yep - that's what happens to me - i get major migraines after taking ppi's (tried em all) - some like nexium make me also very anxious/shakey feeling inside. pepcid makes me tired plus the migraine. so, i can't take these acid drugs and am trying the alternative changes. you're not alone. i think these drugs aren't good for our bodies anyhow and that my body knows this and rebels.

Thanks for the reply snowflake. Have you had any success with alternative meds? It's just so annoying because my LPR has been better with the pepcid, but it's definitely not worth the headache!!

I take Pepcid complete without any headaches. It's the only antacid I can tolerate (besides tums etc.). PPI's make me nervous and give me nightmares.

Hi Neddy,
It was actually one of your posts that had me try the pepcid and it is helping my LPR (the last 3 mornings I haven't had a sore throat when waking up). I'm going to give it a few more days and see if the headaches persist. If they do, then I will have to stop because the headaches are BAD. I guess I'm hoping that my body adjusts and this side effect goes away.
